I am Rabbiteconomist, and this is my new blog for Pathfinder, Dungeons and Dragons, my current Pathfinder Campaign and it's game world, RPGs in General. I will be covering my campaign journal here, as well as including articles about the world and blathering about game mechanics and minutiae. I have GMing for 15 years and GMing for Pathfinder for the past year and a half.
Regarding the name of the blog, after brainstorming I chose Illithid Dependence Day from my fiancee's suggestion. In my current Pathfinder campaign, I run a homebrew setting of my own design, pulling elements from Pathfinder and D&D 3.5 (such as Githyanki and Illithids), but using the Pathfinder rules . In this setting, the Illithids living on the planet of the Gholeia in the Kaimirrus System no longer hunt the locals, but instead maintain treaties with nearby kingdoms and nations for mutual defense and limited trade (this comes from an idea of someone brilliant before me, seen here at D&D wiki's classic Dungeonomicon). This is a change from past behavior prior to their ancient defeat during Gith's Revolution on the planet Gholeia, Gith's homeworld, and their subsequent loss of influence on the planet. Today, their public relations have never been better - Illtihid culture has influenced local cultures towards tolerance of their race and controlled information and actions of their people for millennia. Few scholars know the truth - those in power are forced to deal with realities they reluctantly accept.
An impact of this influence is the Rathaukr Festival, a popular festival with Humans, Gillmen, and other locals from Kelmindor. Named for the Illithid city of Rathaukr in Kelmindor, it is a festival during the 4th month of the year, celebrating the "long and friendly relationship" between Humans and Illithids on Gandalfar, the continent of Gholeia for which the campaign takes place. The 1st day involves exchanging gifts and receiving gifts from a benefactor wearing a decorative Illithid mask. The 8th & final day of the 8 day festival is Illithid Dependence Day, where those celebrating give thanks to Illithids for protecting humanity against the Aboleths, the Hoths, and the Giants in centuries past, and acknowledge their "debt of gratitude" to the "noble" Illithids.
I approach Pathfinder, D&D, and other RPGs with an unusual perspective. Non-standard races, non-standard cultures, non-standard assumptions. I take influence from economics, finance, history, fiction, and games. I do not like purely black and white worlds - even in universes with ethical Alignments as fundamental laws, I see them as complex and gray.
Remember to be thankful for all the reasons you are safe today. Happy Illithid Dependence Day!
